Beyond Europe: AI in IR is the international conference organized by the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, dedicated to deliberation over challenges and opportunities presented by the advent of IA in technology, politics, health and communication.
Over two days our panelists and guests will exchange ideas, experiences and research results regarding Artificial Intelligence’s impact on their respective fields. The interdisciplinary character of the proposed panels provides a unique opportunity for participants and audience members to go beyond familiar understandings and to gain new perspectives on the subject.
We plan to host several world-leading experts in computer science, mathematics, international relations, cybersecurity, psychology, neurolinguistics and communication to act as keynote speakers and to provide valuable insights for the discussions in the proposed panels.
The conference is composed of 4 round-table panels with keynote addresses at the beginning of day 1 and 6 regular panels on day 2.

Long-time Consulting and Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, long-time member of the scientific research team of the company/think-tank Exponent, where he progressed through all corporate and scientific levels ending with the highest title of Senior Fellow. Co-founder, long-time president and CEO, currently vice-chairman of geothermal heat extraction company XGS Energy.
Elected to the US National Academy of Engineering. Co-founder and chairman of the US-Polish Trade Council for over 20 years. Co-founder of the Top 500 Innovators programme.
"The Geopolitics of the Middle East: Technology as a Stabiliser or Disrupter?"
prof. Ross Harrison
Senior Fellow and Director of Research
Middle East institute
Ross Harrison is a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute and a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in Middle East politics and U.S. foreign policy. He previously taught at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service for over 15 years. Harrison authored Strategic Thinking in 3D, a required text at the U.S. National War College, and co-edited works such as From Chaos to Cooperation and Escaping the Conflict Trap. His forthcoming book, Decoding Iran’s Foreign Policy, is set for release in Summer 2025 and is based on his experiences in track 1.5 diplomacy. His writings have appeared in notable policy journals and have been cited by major media outlets like The New York Times.
"AI in the Military Domain: Beyond Autonomy in Weapon Systems"
prof. Anna Nadibaidze
Center for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark
Dr Anna Nadibaidze is a researcher for the European Research Council funded AutoNorms and AutoPractices projects based at the Center for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark.
She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Southern Denmark and an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Her research explores, among other issues, AI technologies in international relations and security, as well as governance and arms control of AI in the military domain.
Her work has been published in journals such as Contemporary Security Policy, Ethics and Information Technology, and Journal of International Relations and Development.
"Artifice and Intelligence in Global Science and Education"
prof. Michael Barany
University of Edinburgh
Michael Barany researches and teaches the history and culture of modern science and mathematics at the University of Edinburgh.
Raised in the United States in a family of scientists, Barany developed an interest in the culture and rhetoric of mathematics sciences that he pursued alongside an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Cornell University and eventually a PhD in history of science from Princeton University.
Barany’s MathsWorlds research group at Edinburgh investigates the many worlds, large and small, where mathematics is made in all its pluralities. The group’s main project, supported by a UKRI Horizon Guarantee grant titled Situating International and Global Mathematics (SIGMA), examines the global history of modern mathematical research.

When and where will the event take place?
Beyond Europe: AI in International Relations and Communication will take place on 12th and 13th of December at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of Adam Mickiewicz University located at ul. Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 5, 61-614 Poznań.
Who is eligible to participate in your event?
We invite everyone interested in the subject of our conference to take part in the event. Nevertheless active participation is open only for the Ph.D. holders (all panels), Ph.D. candidates and active students (dedicated panel), and invited Keynote Speakers.
Do Organisers provide accommodation for the participants?
Organisers do not provide accommodation for participants. To find a suitable lodging please refer to popular short-term accommodation services available online.
How can I get the invoice for my participation fee?
In order to receive an invoice please send your request via email with a transfer confirmation attached. Digital invoice will be delivered up to two weeks after the event.
